The Neighborhood Church

What is a “House Church?”

The Neighborhood Church is part of the “House Church Movement,” sometimes called the “Simple Church Movement”. This is a back-to-basics concept that seeks to recover the focus and passion of the New Testament Churches by shedding the cares associated with building maintenance, fund-raising and church politics.

Instead, we want our primary focus to be what Jesus called the Greatest Commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your soul, and all your strength and all your mind. And love other people as much as you love yourself,”

Although many simple churches meet in restaurants, outdoors, in conference rooms and in as many places as one can imagine, atypical meeting place is in someone’s home. Hence, a “House Church.”

Rather than building up a complicated, anonymous and time-eating organization, a simple church presents an “organic” alternative that seeks to grow and replicate naturally before it gets too big to become impersonal. In this way, members can really engage each other in ways large sanctuary-based churches may not offer. Also, the church’s services and activities and can truly reflect the needs and preferences of the members.

Although most of our members consider The Neighborhood Church as their primary church home, some of us do attend other churches on Sunday morning or small groups and studies at other locations throughout the week. We welcome you no matter what your circumstances!
