  About Pastor Bob Childs

Pastor Bob Childs was ordained in 1977 and has served in three Presbyterian and Congregational Churches (in New Jersey, Maryland and Connecticut) before joining the founding team of the Neighborhood Church at the end of 2006.

He has been married to Debbie since 1974, and has three grown children, ages 28, 25 & 22.  All are actively serving the Lord in Churches where they live.

Debbie, a registered nurse and Bob's long-time ministry partner, plays keyboards and helps lead worship time at The Neighborhood Church.

Bob grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, and lived about 100 feet from Memorial Stadium, home of the Baltimore Orioles and Colts.  He was a very successful long distance runner--he was the Maryland State track champion in high school, and the Heptagonal and IC4A champion while at the University of Pennsylvania.

During his high school years, he developed friendships with a group of guys who led him to a personal relationships with Jesus Christ.  During his college years, he began to sense a call of God to go into ministry.  He received a Master's Degree from Gordon Conwell Theological seminary in 1977, and a Doctor of Ministry degree from Gordon-Conwell in 1990.

Bob has lived in Stamford since 1987, and has served on the boards of various local and regional organizations, including the Salvation Army in Stamford, Habitat for Humanity in Fairfield County, Vision New England, and the Billy Graham New York City Crusad Pastor's Committee in 2005.

Bob has never lost his passion for sports (he still plays basketball), he loves to read (especially history), and occassionally cross-stitches.  However, his greatest love and joy is found in his relationship with Jesus Christ, and in encouraging others to "taste and see that the Lord is good". (Psalm 34:7)
